Erik ten Hag reacts to David de Gea winning Golden Glove award

Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag insists that David de Gea remains a 'top keeper' after securing this season's Premier League Golden Glove award for most clean sheets. De Gea presided over a 17th league shutout of the season during United's win over Bournemouth on Saturday, playing a key role in that with a particularly fine save to deny David Brooks. Alisson (14), Nick Pope and Aaron Ramsdale (both 13) have been the next best Premier League goalkeepers this season but cannot now catch De Gea. It is the second Golden Glove of De Gea's career, having kept a league-high 18 clean sheets when United finished runners-up in the final table under Jose Mourinho. Even, so De Gea has come under criticism for a number of costly mistakes this season. He was culpable for gifting West Ham their goal in a recent United defeat, while the 32-year-old also has a disastrous night as the Red Devils crashed out of the Europa League to Sevilla. Frank Lampard questions commitment of Chelsea squad

Chelsea caretaker manager Frank Lampard has claimed that not all members of the first-team have pulled their weight this season. The Blues are all but certain to finish the 2022/23 campaign in the Premier League 's bottom half, with a miserable first term under Todd Boehly and Clearlake Capital's ownership nearly over. Popular manager Thomas Tuchel was fired in September 2022 and replaced with Brighton's Graham Potter, but he failed to get results out of an extremely bloated squad and too was given his marching orders in April. Lampard returned to Chelsea on a caretaker basis until the end of the season but has won just one of his eight Game s in charge, losing his first six on the spin. Ahead of Sunday's daunting trip to Manchester City, Lampard revealed that he can only see fight and hunger from some members of his squad . Aaron Ramsdale hits out at claims Arsenal have 'bottled' Premier League title race

Arsenal goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale has brushed off claims that the Gunners have 'bottled' the Premier League title race. Having led the league for the vast majority of the season, Arsenal seem destined to finish second in the standings after a run of just four wins in nine games, coupled with a rampant run of form from Manchester City, has seen Pep Guardiola's side climb to the top. It's led to claims that Arsenal have fallen under the pressure of the title race, but Ramsdale was keen to focus on the progress made by the Gunners across a season in which they were not expected to contend. "This narrative of 'bottled it' is an easy way out," he told The Times . "It's just a quick, cheap narrative from certain people who have not actually gone digging into the stories of what we've achieved. "And some people are saying it and forgetting that other teams in other years have had the same experience as us by missing out on the title by a ...

How many times have Manchester City won the Champions League?

Image
Manchester City's relationship with the Champions League isn't exclusively a contemporary one. The club's maiden appearance in the competition came way back when during the 1968/69 season, but their disappointing early exit would foreshadow future continental woes. City have evolved into a juggernaut under Pep Guardiola; a side so often regarded as the very best Europe has to offer. A team as coherent and talented as the Sky Blues are worthy of multiple Champions League crowns, exemplified by their domination of a hugely competitive Premier League, but Guardiola's Citizens have perpetually come up short on the European stage. While Pep's stint in Manchester has been nothing short of scintillating, the Spaniard's not yet been able to fit the final piece into his jigsaw. Tottenham consider Brentford duo for director of football role

Tottenham Hotspur have shortlisted Brentford's Phil Giles and Lee Dykes for their vacant director of Football role, sources have told 90min . Spurs are on the hunt for a successor to Fabio Paratici, who resigned from his role in April when a global football ban was upheld. 90min previously reported that Sevilla's Monchi was under consideration for the gig, while there are other candidates on Spurs' radar. Sources have now confirmed that both Brentford director of Football and executive director Giles and technical director Dykes are under consideration from Tottenham. Giles joined in 2015 and has overseen the Bees' rise from the Championship's mid-table to the Premier League, while Dykes was promoted to his current role at the start of this season following three years as the club's head of scouting. Giles and Dykes are also being monitored by Manchester United, both under their current regime and prospective new owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe, who is a fan of t...

Southampton relegated from Premier League after Fulham defeat

Southampton have been relegated from the Premier League after losing 2-0 to Fulham at St Mary's. The Saints have endured a rotten season, with a young squad failing to gel under three different managers in Ralph Hasenhuttl, Nathan Jones and Ruben Selles. With only two games remaining, Southampton can no longer finish any higher than 19th. It means the south coast side will compete in the Championship for the first time since 2011/12, when they were promoted to the top flight in second place. Carlos Vinicius' strike had Fulham 1-0 up in the first half before the returning Aleksandar Mitrovic sealed the hosts' fate just over midway through the second half. Southampton's home form has been one of the key reasons for their demise. Just two wins and four draws have been picked up at St Mary's, with every other fixture ending in defeat . Hasenhuttl was sacked in early November when a 4-1 defeat to Newcastle left the Saints in the relegation zone after a run of six losse...

Jurgen Klopp reveals what lack of Champions League football would mean for Liverpool transfer plans

Jurgen Klopp has insisted that failure to qualify for the 2023/24 UEFA Champions League will not hinder Liverpool in the summer transfer window. The Reds currently sit in fifth place in the Premier League, just one point adrift of Manchester United having playing a game more than their arch rivals. A few months ago Liverpool had seemingly no hope of qualifying for Europe's elite competition having started the 2022/23 season surprisingly poorly. Results have picked recently, however, with Liverpool winning their last five Premier League games on the bounce - results which have pushed them into top four contention. Regardless of whether or not Liverpool catch fourth place United, Klopp has insisted in his latest pre-match press conference that the club's transfer plans will not be affected. “At the moment, when you talk [to a player], you realise that he’s already clarified because we can’t tell anybody that we will be definitely in Champions League next year,' the German sa...

Who can be relegated from the Premier League this weekend?

Image
We're at the stage of the Premier League campaign when teams finally get their hearts broken or achieve what they have been working towards all season long. The relegation battle in the Premier League in 2022/23 has been one for the ages and with three games still left to play, there are seven teams mathematically at risk of dropping down to the Championship. Those teams are Bournemouth, West Ham, Nottingham Forest, Everton, Leicester, Leeds and Southampton. While for Bournemouth and West Ham relegation is possible, they have enough of a points gap that it would take an extreme set of circumstances for them to go down at this stage. The fight is really between the other five teams. Can Southampton get relegated this weekend?
