Erling Haaland emulates 92-year goal record after netting 50th of the season

With one sweep of his ominous left boot, Erling Haaland notched up the 34th Premier League goal of his debut season, which just so happened to be his 50th for Manchester City across all competitions this term. Haaland had already surpassed the record tally of 32 goals previously set by Mohamed Salah (2017/18) in a 38-game Premier League season with his stoppage-time swipe against Arsenal in midweek. The flaxen-haired Norwegian needed less than three minutes to rifle a low penalty past Fulham's Bernd Leno in Manchester City's next match on Sunday afternoon. Figures had already been hastily scrawled over by Haaland before he even officially joined Manchester City last summer. While completing his medical as part of a £51m transfer from Borussia Dortmund, the 22-year-old was measured at a height of 195.2m. “Oh wow, I’ve grown,” Haaland gasped while reclining on a bed in the treatment room, “almost one centimetre!” Andrew Cole (although, he was known as Andy at the time) and Alan S

David Moyes slams VAR after West Ham denied penalty in Liverpool 2-1 defeat

David Moyes has accused VAR of disrespecting West Ham after his team were denied a late penalty in his team's eventual 2-1 defeat to Liverpool at London Stadium. The Hammers boss confronted Chris Kavanagh on the pitch at full-time after the referee decided not to award a penalty when Thiago's arm made contact with the ball in the box. Moyes was adamant that the VAR official, Neil Swarbrick, should have at least advised Kavanagh to review the incident on the pitchside monitor. "The hardest thing to take is the disrespect from VAR, that VAR wouldn't have at least said to the referee that this might be worth having a look," Moyes said in a post-match interview. "VAR, for me, showed no respect whatsoever to us." Liverpool came from behind to win the game, with Joel Matip scoring the decisive goal from a corner in the second half. Every mistake Tottenham & Daniel Levy have made since 2019

Image
For much of Daniel Levy's tenure as Tottenham chairman, he oversaw a lot of undeniable and tangible progress. Spurs were mid-table fodder when ENIC took control of the club in 2001. Since then, they've elevated the club to consistent European contenders (despite a lack of silverware) and have invested in state-of-the-art facilities. But when they viewed the time had come to turn from nearly-men to winners, they took the club backwards again. And again. And again. Here are Levy and the Spurs board's greatest blunders since their peak of reaching the 2019 UEFA Champions League final. 1. Too little, too late in the transfer market Ndombele even scored a worldie on his debut / Marc Atkins/GettyImages This one's a bit of a prelude to this whole debacle, but it still runs true. From 2018 to 2019, Tottenham went nearly 18 months without making a signing. Not one. Zilch. Nada. The board bemoaned that conducting transfer activity was hard. Spurs spent the 2018/19 season running

Ryan Mason’s record as Tottenham’s interim manager

Ryan Mason's last tweet before temporarily replacing Antonio Conte's temporary replacement read: "Well done lads." Tottenham's latest acting head coach was praising the Premier League Cup won by the club's under-17s rather than anything the senior side has turned out in recent weeks. Mason acted as Cristian Stellini's assistant for each of the four matches that Conte's former right-hand man oversaw after the divisive Italian ranted himself out of the role in March. After meekly watching Tottenham unravel in a destructive opening 21 minutes against Newcastle last Sunday, Mason will be tasked with guiding a team stripped of all confidence through the final six games of the campaign - if he can last that long. Mason has experience of helming a rocky ship after taking over at the end of Jose Mourinho's toxic tenure at Tottenham two years ago. Here's how the former midfielder fared under similar circumstances in April 2021. 21/04/21 - Tottenham 2-1
