Premier League crisis club of the season: Chelsea

During the 2022/23 Premier League , quite a few clubs endured a mini- crisis . Tottenham Hotspur were disaster at times, as exemplified by their sacking of a caretaker manager. Leeds United were generally horrid, as exemplified by their, well, literal relegation. But no club could compete with the sheer brevity of the crisis over at Stamford Bridge. Here's why Chelsea Football Club are 90min's crisis club of the season . READ THE LATEST CHELSEA NEWS, TRANSFER RUMOURS & GOSSIP feed What was the crisis? Having spent around £600m on new players over the last 12 months, Chelsea somehow ended the season: 12th in the Premier League. With 30 points less than they accumulated during the 2021/22 season. With their lowest points tally in their Premier League history. A caretaker manager who held a 9% win percentage. Having scored less goals than two of the three relegated clubs. With 16 defeats in the league alone. With a -9 goal difference. It was really, really bad. Why were the

Mason Mount sends message to Chelsea fans ahead of uncertain summer

Mason Mount has praised Chelsea fans for their support over this past season as he heads for a 'break' over the summer. Having missed the end of Chelsea's season with a pelvic injury, there is a real possibility that Mount may have played his last Game for the Blues as he approaches a summer transfer window in which he could be sold. Mount will enter the final year of his contract and has been warned he will be sold this summer if he does not agree an extension. All offers thus far have failed to tempt the midfielder but talks have not yet been ended, with incoming manager Mauricio Pochettino known to be keen to keep hold of Mount. After Sunday's 1-1 draw to close out the season at Stamford Bridge, Mount took part in the lap of appreciation for fans, with Ben Chilwell putting his arm around his close friend as they approached the tunnel. Mount later took to Instagram to send a message to Chelsea fans after what has undoubtedly been a challenging campaign. Read the la

Leeds 1-4 Tottenham: Player ratings as United go down with whimper

Leeds United's relegation from the Premier League was confirmed as Tottenham earned a comfortable 4-1 win at Elland Road. Goals at the start of both halves from Harry Kane and Pedro Porro ruined United's slim chances of staying up and while they eventually pulled one back with 23 minutes remaining through Jack Harrison, Kane's second and his 30th in the league denied Sam Allardyce's side the win needed to keep them in England's top division. Lucas Moura came on late in the piece and netted a fabulous solo effort to put the finishing touches on the victory, though it wasn't enough to lift Tottenham into the Europa Conference League spots as Aston Villa beat Brighton to finish seventh. United couldn't had made a poorer start as they started their ambitious attempt to beat the drop. Pascal Struijk misjudged the ball, allowing Porro to come inside. Son Heung-min shuffled it across to Kane, who swept in just 92 seconds into the contest, giving home manager Sam A

Top scorers on the final day of Premier League seasons

The final day of an invariably long, hard league campaign can be the setting for season-defining matches. However, more often than not, everything of relevance has already been final ised for both clubs involved, giving many of the simultaneous set of matches the care-free recklessness of the last day of primary school. It's no surprise that the final round of matches invariably produces more goals than the average across the preceding nine months of each season . Here are the players, with their favourite toy stuffed into their backpacks, that have taken advantage at the end of each season . 10. Pep Guardiola sends message to Premier League over Man City charges

Pep Guardiola has called on the Premier League to finalise a verdict on the 115 financial charges levied against Manchester City as quickly as possible. City recently wrapped up their fifth Premier League title in six years after a run of 12 wins on the bounce saw them overtake a spirited Arsenal side at the top of the table. But the club's success has been tainted by the looming charges against the club for allegedly breaching financial rules between 2009 and 2018. City are also said to have failed to cooperate with the Premier League's investigation into their accounts, and, according to The Times, have submitted a legal challenge against the 115 charges. Speaking to the press ahead of City's penultimate Premier League Game of the season, against high-flying Brighton & Hove Albion, Guardiola revealed his hope that a decision will be made quickly.
