Borussia Dortmund chief gives update on Jadon Sancho talks with Man Utd

Image
Borussia Dortmund CEO Hans-Joachim Watzke has admitted he is "optimistic" a deal will be struck to re-sign Jadon Sancho on loan from Manchester United. The two clubs are talking over a loan deal for the 23-year-old winger, who has struggled to show his best form since his £73m move from Dortmund to United in 2021. Reports emerged last week suggesting the deal was approaching completion but negotiations have remained open over the weekend, with further update s suggesting there is not yet an agreement over a loan fee and various other financial details. Asked for an update during Dortmund's training camp, Watzke confirmed the ball is in United's court. "The issue is no longer with us," he told reporters. "We are in good communication with Manchester United. I am cautiously optimistic. "We want to bring [Sancho] over, but we are not yet at the point where we can announce results." Tom Lockyer provides health update after cardiac arrest

Luton Town captain Tom Lockyer has given an update on his condition on New Year’s Eve and thanked the people who saved his life after suffering a cardiac arrest against Bournemouth on December 16. The 29-year-old, who will see specialists in the new year to determine what his next step will be, collapsed in the 59th minute of the Premier League clash at the Vitality Stadium, resulting in the fixture being abandoned. The Welshman was discharged from hospital five days later following a successful procedure to fit an implantable cardioverter defibrillator. “I would just like to say that I am doing very well and feeling very much myself after the cardiac arrest I suffered in Bournemouth,” Lockyer wrote on social media. “The reason I’m doing so well is all down to the heroic actions of the players, staff, doctors and paramedics. “I feel thankful that this happened to me surrounded by these heroes. They saved my life. I will never forget what you did for me.” 📲 Tom Lockyer has provide...

Mikel Arteta provides injury updates on three key Arsenal stars ahead of West Ham clash

Image
Mikel Arteta has revealed the latest fitness updates on Martin Odegaard, Gabriel Jesus and Thomas Partey ahead of the Arsenal's Carabao Cup clash with West Ham United on Wednesday. The trio missed the weekend's victory over Sheffield United, with Odegaard rested on the bench due to overload concerns and both Jesus and Partey missing out altogether because of various injury problems. Jesus picked up a muscle problem in the Europa League meeting with Sevilla that kept him out of the last Game , while Partey had to be left out altogether after picking up his second injury of the season. Arteta's first update concerned captain Odegaard, with the boss revealing: "We rested him the other day, so it’s how long we rest him for and how we manage the minutes and the rhythm that he needs to be at his best. We had the opportunity to [rest him] and we didn’t use him in the end. "It’s impossible to play with no niggles in football, and at this level, when you have games every ...

Lisandro Martinez provides Man Utd fans with injury update

Manchester United defender Lisandro Martinez is back in training following the injury that prematurely ended his debut season at Old Trafford. Martinez quickly became a fan favourite following his £57m transfer from Ajax last summer, despite a rocky start in back-to-back Premier League defeats to Brighton and Brentford - the latter of which saw him substituted at half-time on a disatrous day for United. But the Argentine then started the next 12 Premier League games, from which United took 26 points out of a possible 36. Martinez was afforded some additional time to bring his match fitness up to speed after filling a back-up role in his country's World Cup win, re-established by mid-January. However, a foot injury initially feared to be Achilles-related that he suffered during the first leg of the Europa League quarter-final against Sevilla ended his season early in April. Tests later revealed a much less serious metatarsal problem, much to the relief of fans and the club. READ T...

Erik ten Hag provides update on Man Utd's centre-back crisis

Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has revealed that Raphael Varane and Lisandro Martinez have not yet returned to training, though they have been boosted by Harry Maguire's recovery from an illness. The Red Devils returned to action with a win in the Carabao Cup against Burnley last week, though a shortage of centre-backs meant that Casemiro had to partner Victor Lindelof in defence. Varane and Martinez have both been afforded extra time off after they reached last Sunday's World Cup final, and speaking to club media ahead of Tuesday's Premier League clash at home to Nottingham Forest, Ten Hag provided an update on his defensive options. ''Returning from Rapha Varane and Licha Martinez, they are not there [back at United] but we hope on their comeback [soon]," he said. "We had some problems with illness like Harry Maguire, but he was back on the training pitch today so I’m happy with that." Listen now as  Scott Saunders  hosts  Graeme Bailey  a...
